About Sheena - The Teacher
Sheena ALAlami (nee McGill) graduated with B.Ed Music Honours 2:1 from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow in 1997. Since graduating she worked as a highly successful Secondary Music Teacher for almost eight years before relocating to Wolverhampton with her husband and starting a family. Now as a mother of two, she is keen to promote music making for all ages through www.MusicTeacher4U.co.uk. Sheena has taken part in a wide spectrum of musical activities. This includes performances with The Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Amateur Operatic/Dramatic Societies. She has worked with pre-school children through informal music making, Primary children particularly through The National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS), and Secondary children formally in class as well as through much extra-curricular work, reliant as always on positive professional relationships and goodwill. She has tutored many adults of varying abilities and has even directed a choir with a group of elderly residents. They absolutely loved singing! Whilst not a qualified Music Therapist, Sheena has read much information and had the opportunity to work with children with moderate to severe learning difficulties such as autism/aspergers syndrome, cerebral palsy, and Down's syndrome. This work is very demanding, but each little step made so rewarding.
Sheena also holds great interest in the connections music can make. It can be used to promote general academic development, self-esteem, confidence, memory and can be used in a therapeutic manner as an emotional outlet and means of communicating.
Another of her fascinations is the application of music and its use in promoting better health/wellbeing. If you would like to know more on this then visit: www.shapeconsultancy.co.uk and look for Sheena ALAlami.
